In late 2019, the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus emerged and a pandemic followed soon thereafter. At that time, little was known about this virus and massive efforts were made to learn about and combat it.
In response to this challenge, BALANCED Media|Technology released a specialized version of our HEWMEN Cell app and we are proud to have had a role in developing and validating technology used to find medications to treat Covid-19 disease.
Success!
In conjunction with John Wise, PhD of the SMU-Intelligent Data Analysis lab of Southern Methodist University, the HEWMEN Cell App utilized distributed grid computing to identify the key Mpro protein that has two targetable sites to disrupt COVID-19 infection. With your help, we were able to identify existing, safe, FDA approved medications to be studied as candidates to treat Covid-19.
Your role in these discoveries and technology development was essential. By volunteering to participate in BALANCED’s grid computing network, you provided computational power that allowed crowdsourcing of artificial intelligence. Through the power of community, we were able to identify and shorten time to medical discovery.
This specialized version of HEWMEN Cell has served its purpose. Therefore, we will wind-down the project and use what we have learned to create new tools with broader functionality. Future versions of HEWMEN Cell will allow human input to be combined with the computational power of the grid via human in the loop (HiTL) computing. When it’s ready, we will reach out to you again to join us in new discoveries. For now, feel free to uninstall HEWMEN Cell, and thank you for your contribution and support.
In the meantime, keep up with all the ways BALANCED is working to bring purpose to everyday activities at BMT.world or follow us:
Until next time,
